Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), also called as automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), is a surveillance system capable of capturing the image of vehicle and analyzing its license plate. ANPR can be a separate standalone system or can be integrated with the existing traffic cameras or closed circuit televisions and can be used by enforcement departments to detect and prevent crimes. ANPR systems are also used for electronic toll collection and for monitoring red light adherence, speed enforcement and other traffic activities.
